| Reader 2 (Alexis) | Washington was the only President that never lived in the White House. When Washington was President, the Nation's capital was in New York City. It was later moved to Philadelphia. George would have been happy to stay at Mount Vernon with his family. He dearly loved this house. |
| George (Peter) | I was 8 years old when I got my first horse. My father gave him to me. I called him Hero. I learned to ride quickly. I could even ride horses that were very wild. I always had a great love for horses. |
| Reader 3 (Sarah) | Washington was such an admired leader that his picture is on dollar bills, quarters and postage stamps. He is the only President to have a state named after him. America's capital, Washington, D.C. carries his name. |
| George (Peter) | There is a story the people tell about me. The story says that I chopped down one of my father's cherry trees. When my father asked me about the tree, I said "I cannot tell a lie." This is not a true story. I was made up by Parson Weems. He wanted to provide some legends for the new nation to tell. This legend has sure been told a lot. HA HA HA |
| Reader 4 (Abigail) | When George became a man, he spoke out about Britain's unfairness. He organized an army to fight the British, and he was chosen as their leader. After fighting for 6 years, the British surrendered on October 19, 1781. George Washington became a national hero. |
| Reader 5 (Emilio) | Free from Britain, the 13 colonies formed a government, but it had problems. Washington led a group to solve the problems. They wrote the Constitution of the United States. We celebrate the fourth of July every year because it is the country's birthday. |
| George (Peter) | I remember the freezing cold and the hunger when there was no food. War is a hard thing. I stayed beside the troops, encouraging the men and giving them hope for victory. |
| Reader 6 (Erikka) | George wanted to be a lot of things as he was growing up. He thought of being a sailor, he worked as a surveyor. He was a farmer and a hunter. He was a soldier. He married a pretty widow named Martha Custis. |
| Reader 7 (Timothy) | In the first election for President, Washington got every vote. He is the only President to ever do so. In 1792 Washington was elected to a second term. Again he got every vote. |
| Reader 8 (Frankie) | There was an old soldier that said "George Washington was first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.". |
| Reader 9 (Emilio) | George's father died when he was 11 years old. George was very much like his mother. He had a mind of his own. Mary had trouble keeping him on the farm. He was always going on adventures. |
| George (Peter) | My mother was a good woman. She hated to dress up. She would only dress up when she had callers. Everyone loved her gingerbread. I remember well the good times we spent together at Ferry Farm. |
| Reader 1 (Sarah) | Everyone wanted Washington to run for a third term. But after serving 8 years, George Washington was tired and he was ready to go home. George went back to Mount Vernon.
