WHAT IS YOUR PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE?
I started out as an Assistant Band Director in Rockport-Fulton followed by becoming the Director of Bands at Santa Rosa ISD where we earned top 10 in State Marching Contest and top 10 in State Honor Band competition.  As the Marching Director at Crowley High School, we placed 3rd at the State Marching Band competition in Class AAAA.  In Corpus Christi, I became the Director of Bands and Department Chair for Miller High School.  After a short stay in Freer ISD, the Director of Bands at Hebbronville High School opened up.  After many Sweepstakes and State Finals, I moved to Taft ISD as the Assistant Principal for Taft Junior High where I was named the Region 2 Assistant Principal of the Year and a State Finalist for Texas Assistant Principal of the Year.  I then became the Principal at Norman Thomas Elementary in Freer ISD.  I have worked in 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A schools for over 30 years.

WHY DID YOU BECOME AN EDUCATOR?
There are three reasons I became an educator.  I first learned the impact of a single teacher on the life of a student.  Coming from a broken home, my 5th Grade Teacher Mrs. Mora helped turn my outlook on life around.  Second, education has so many opportunities to help students become part of a group or team.  This belonging and acceptance helped motivate me to become an educator.  Finally, education was my way of changing my life circumstances.  Being one of 5 siblings living in a single parent home, it was tough to make ends meet.  My education and becoming an educator has given me the opportunity to work my way out of poverty and become part of the American Dream.

WHO INFLUENCED YOU TO BECOME AN EDUCATOR?
My 5th Grade Teacher Mrs. Mora had a profound impact on my life.  My first band director Edward Zamora helped me fall in love with music and become part of the band family.  My own mom and siblings helped me understand what becoming an educator meant to my and others.
