The Hereford Lady Whitefaces picked up a big district victory on the road Tuesday night, sweeping Dumas 3-0 to improve to 2-1 in district play.

Hereford battled through a tight opening set and came away with a 25-22 win before taking control in the second, 25-18. The Lady Whitefaces finished the sweep with another 25-22 victory in the third set.

Head Coach Alyssa Lopez said her team did a good job of responding when things did not go their way and fighting back when Dumas built a lead.

“We did a good job of responding to errors and coming back from point deficits,” Lopez said.

Lilly Madrigal turned in a strong all-around performance for Hereford, finishing with three aces, two blocks and 17 assists. She was also named the Lady Whitefaces’ standout performer for the match.

Teagan Thomas led the attack with 12 kills, while Kyndall Valdez anchored the defense with 24 digs.

“A win in Dumas is always a great confidence booster,” Lopez said. “It’s important for us to realize this cannot be the highlight of our season, but the starting point of more great things.”

The victory moves Hereford to 16-15 overall and 2-1 in district play as the Lady Whitefaces continue their district schedule.
